PadMan, though, has not fared as well as everyone had expected, could surely be lauded for whatever it has achieved at the box office. Its tight budget and good promotional strategy has helped to stay the movie well behind the lines. Let’s see how it is faring at the box office.
The movie has crossed the 70 crore mark at the box office & Aiyaary‘s under-performance could prove to be a minor relief for PadMan. It has collected 1.55 crores* on its 2nd Monday at the box office and now stands at the grand total of 73.45 crores*.
In other news Padman is all set to be made tax-free in Rajasthan as it gives a social message, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced on Friday.
The Chief Minister spoke at an event to felicitate her and organised by Anganwadi workers.
Akshay made a comment on Twitter when a user pointed out how Akshay was making his “political associations and aspirations so obvious” with PadMan, which revolves around the topic of menstrual hygiene.
“A good cause like menstrual hygiene needs to be supported regardless of the political association or aspiration,” tweeted Akshay, who highlighted the need of eradication of open defecation in his film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Directed by R. Balki, PadMan is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost machine to make sanitary napkins.
It stars Akshay as Murugunathan, while Radhika Apte plays his wife. Actor Sonam Kapoor will also be seen in a special role in the movie which hit the screens on February 9. Apart from PadMan, Akshay Kumar also has some interesting movies like Gold, 2.0, Mogul, Kesari, Housefull 4 and an untitled movie with KriArj Films in his bag.
